The article introduces a new approach to long-term AI agent memory called Governed Evolving Memory (GEM), which emphasizes state-level operations over traditional record-level database methods. This shift aims to address common issues in current memory systems and proposes a prototype, MemState, to validate its feasibility and highlight the need for a dedicated memory-centric data management engine.
